Held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, the invitation-only event was organized by a group of local businessmen and attracted at least 1000 participants from all walks of life. This gathering was part of the organizer’s efforts to motivate working adults to do their part in society by understanding their unique talents and abilities in the workforce. The three-hour dinner included a sumptuous five-course meal and provided ample opportunities for participants to mingle with one another from various professions. Also among the crowd were several well-known luminaries such as Mediacorp artiste, Belinda Lee, 77th Street managing director, Elim Chew, editor of Elle magazine, Theresa Tan, and Miss Singapore 2007 runner-up, Celeste Tan.

The speaker, Dr. Bernard, is a current member of the Board of Directors of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (“EDC”) and Chancellor Joel Klein’s Cabinet of the New York City Department of Education. He has also served as a member of the NYC Police Department Advisory Board for Courtesy, Professionalism and Respect, under the leadership of Commissioner Howard Safir. Dr. Bernard also served on Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s 2001 Transition Team of the city of New York. His address that night included many inspirational anecdotes and quotes. One phrase that stood out was this: “Ideas are born by the demands and needs within those problems. In such circumstances hides the opportunity to promotions and that intersection becomes our life purpose.”

The event proved to be beneficial to many who were in attendance. In particular was one participant, Mr Gan KC, one of Singapore’s flourishing songwriters, having written and produced songs for the Warner Music label. He said, “The event really reminded me of the work that I do everyday; that I have a purpose in life. And [Dr Bernard] has a special way of inspiring all of us to strive for excellence in all that we do.”
